This Privacy Policy explains how r/Shorts (“r/Shorts,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects, uses, and shares information when you use our website and services (the “Service”), which let you turn text prompts into narrated, captioned short-form videos. By using the Service, you agree to the practices described here.

Information we collect

We collect the following categories of information:

• Account information. When you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) processes your identifiers such as your name, email address, and profile image. We do not store your password.
• Content you create. Prompts you submit and the stories, narration audio, and captions generated from them are processed to fulfil each request and are not stored by us afterwards. Your work in progress (including the narration audio and any background video or music you add) and the settings you choose are kept in your browser’s storage on your device. Videos are rendered in your browser; files you add and videos you export never leave your device.
• Usage data. Basic, aggregated analytics about how the Service is used, such as pages visited and actions taken, collected via Vercel Analytics.
• Local preferences. Your selected theme and font are stored in your browser’s local storage and never leave your device.

How we use your information

• To provide, operate, and maintain the Service.
• To generate stories, narration, captions, and videos in response to your prompts and settings.
• To authenticate you and secure your account.
• To monitor usage, diagnose problems, and improve the Service’s performance and features.
• To comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.

Third-party services

We rely on trusted third parties to operate the Service. Your information may be processed by them solely to provide their functionality:

• Clerk: authentication and account management.
• Vercel AI Gateway (routing to model providers such as OpenAI, Anthropic, Google, DeepSeek, and Meta): generating story scripts from your prompts, and transcribing captions from your narration audio.
• DeepInfra (Kokoro-82M): synthesizing narration audio from your story text.
• Vercel: hosting and privacy-friendly analytics.

These providers maintain their own privacy policies governing how they handle data. We encourage you to review them.

Data retention

We retain account information for as long as your account is active. We do not keep copies of the stories, narration, captions, or videos you create. They live in your browser until you start over or clear your browser’s site data.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export, or delete your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below. You can also delete your work in progress at any time with “Start over” in the Service.

Security

We use industry-standard measures, including encrypted connections, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Children’s privacy

The Service is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
